Respecting Our Animal Spirits

It is with Honour and Respect that in the Shamanic traditions we gather together the spirit medicine of each of our totem animals! In this tradition we put their spirit energy in the form of furs, leathers, feathers, bones, shells, etc., on a hoop shaped frame, We call this Totem Shield Making. Some who are gifted in the muses paint and draw them on the leather. Adding the other “medicines” on and around the hoop providing a secondary role which ties them together and beautifies the shield!

The ancient art of totem shield making was initially used by indigenous cultures around the world, to be placed outside dwellings (teepee, wigwam) to identify personal spirit energy of the person living with in the dwelling to passing tribes. This helps others to understand the individuals within before even approaching in order for them to speak and behave accordingly! (sort of like knowing ones zodiac)

Honoring the totem animal allies in the form of a shield shows great respect to those allies and in return the animal energy offers their protection, guidance, magic and spirited medicine gifts.

In our day to day journeys we often find the allies, sometimes it is a feather on the ground, a tuft of fur, a skull and bone or we are gifted pieces of feathers, pelts of fur or the skills to paint or carve images.

You are welcome to bring those gifts from the Earth to the session to incorporate them into your medicine shield, and/or allow Tamare to provide some or all of your Animal Medicine needs!

Animism is nature’s way of assisting us on our spiritual Earth path. Some animals may be trying to get through to you. Shamanic ways will show you how to hear them.

“Animism” is the worldview that non-human entities, such as animals, plants and inanimate objects, possess a spiritual essence.

What does it mean if we dream of these animals or find them regularly on nature walks or even on the roadside! It does relay a deep and profound message, and it changes according to which direction we see it, if it’s alive or not!

Even the gift of a feather, it all matters!

We are all destined by our connections and our Earth Astrology, and these animals are reflective in our charts. Many animals sit on the medicine wheel in directions that show our positioning in the universe! Knowing these things will help you with both the timing of events and proposed activities. It enables you to understand how to proceed in terms of intensities and style!

Did you know we are developing an online Coven? I’ve been creating this amazing witchy gathering on tiktok over the past year and realized how amazing it was to connect with so many people from all over the universe. It was during these moments that made me realize how wonderful it would be to learn, share and create ritual and ceremony with you all without the censorship social media is now and with the incredible option seeing you all which zoom provides!

We will be able to include up to 100 people, and welcome anyone who is working with the elements, the moons, astrology and other universal forces. You don’t have to follow any one kind of witchcraft or shamanism and we welcome you to bring into this sacred space any of your ideas and interpretations of the magical realm.

The main thrust of this coven is to unite in our diversity and celebrate our individuality, our unique connection with culture, the climate and the world around us. Ultimately we will have an opportunity to emerge ourselves in our many similarities.

So if you are looking to connect with a seasoned witch for guidance and to find others of like mindedness, to learn more about magic and ritual with, than this is the group for you.
